  • In British Columbia, Religious Representatives or Marriage Commissioners can perform marriage ceremonies. There were 3,017 Religious Representatives and 473 Marriage Commissioners who solemnized marriages in the province in 2002.

  • In 2002 approximately two fifths (41.8%) of the marriages were performed by religious representatives (8,890) and three fifths (58.2%) were civil ceremonies (12,355).
