  • A total of 21,245 marriages were solemnized in the province in 2002.

  • In 2002, 60.7% of couples were marrying for the first time (12,902). In 20.0% of the marriages it was the first marriage for only one of the parties (4,259), and 19.2% involved couples where both partners were previously divorced or widowed (4,083).

  • Out of every 100 marriages in 2002, approximately:
    • 71 involved single brides (15,143)
    • 3 involved widowed brides (649)
    • 26 involved divorced brides (5,452)

  • Out of every 100 marriages in 2002, approximately:
    • 70 involved single grooms (14,920)
    • 3 involved widowed grooms (667)
    • 27 involved divorced grooms (5,657)

  • Out of every 100 marriages in 2002, approximately:
    • 61 involved single brides and grooms (12,902)
    • 11 involved single brides and divorced or widowed grooms (2,241)
    • 9 involved single grooms and divorced or widowed brides (2,018)
    • 19 involved brides and grooms who were both divorced or widowed (4,083)
