  • There were 10 Local Health Areas (LHAs) with the statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 2002 (number of births in parentheses). The six LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant were:
    025 100 Mile House (53) 1.62
    068 Nanaimo (389) 1.49
    027 Cariboo-Chilcotin (138) 1.41
    069 Qualicum (94) 1.40
    057 Prince George (450) 1.28
    072/084 Campbell River/V.I. West (173) 1.28

  • All above LHAs also had statistically significant and high ratios for the 1997-2001 period.

  • There were six LHAs that had statistically significant and low perinatal complication ratios in 2002 (number of births in parentheses). These were:
    166 Vancouver South (330) 0.81
    038 Richmond (439) 0.82
    163 Vancouver North East (310) 0.82
    041 Burnaby (601) 0.84
    036 Surrey (1,431) 0.86
    037 Delta (291) 0.86

  • All of the above LHAs also had statistically significant and low ratios for 1997-2001.

  • There were 24 LHAs with statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 1997-2001. The five LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
    018 Golden (182) 1.39
    068 Nanaimo (1,930) 1.34
    027 Cariboo-Chilcotin (837) 1.34
    069 Qualicum (594) 1.31
    029 Lillooet (139) 1.27

  • There were 13 LHAs with statistically significant and low perinatal complication ratios in 1997-2001. The six LHAs with the lowest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
