  • Out of 100 live births in 2002, approximately:
    • 4 were to teenage mothers, less than 20 years old (1,608)
    • 44 were to mothers 20 to 29 years old (17,398)
    • 49 were to mothers 30 to 39 years old (19,503)
    • 3 were to mothers 40 years of age or older (1,382)

  • Out of 100 live births in 2002, approximately:
    • 1 was to a teenage father, less than 20 years old (426)
    • 27 were to fathers 20 to 29 years old (10,834)
    • 53 were to fathers 30 to 39 years old (21,266)
    • 12 were to fathers 40 years of age or older (4,854)
    • 6 did not include father's age (2,513)

  • There were 338 live births (0.8%) where both parents were teenagers (less than 20 years of age) and 956 where only one of the parents was a teenager (2.4%).

  • There were 836 live births (2.1%) where both parents were 40 years of age or older and 4,474 births where only one of the parents was 40 years or older (11.2%).

  • One quarter (25.0%) of the live births in 2002 were reported as out-of-wedlock (9,966). The number of out-of-wedlock births is actually higher since births where it was not known if the parents were married to each other have not been included.
