HIGHLIGHTS TO FIGURE 6.2
  • Teen mothers had the highest rate of infant deaths in 2002 and for most of the last 17 years.

  • All three age groups(<20, 20-34 and 35+) are experiencing a statistically significant downward trend in infant deaths.

HIGHLIGHTS TO FIGURE 6.3
  • Despite the relatively low rate of infant deaths among mothers aged 20-34, this group experienced 72.3% of the infant deaths in 2002 because they are by far the largest age category of mother.

  • Despite having the highest rate of infant death, teen mothers experienced only 9.6% of the infant deaths in the province because of the low number of teen mothers.
