  • There were 399 deaths due to motor vehicle accidents (MVA) in BC in 2002. This was an increase of 21 deaths from the 2001 level of 378. The ASMR for MVAs rose slightly to 0.94 per 10,000 in 2002 from 0.92 in 2001.

  • There is a statistically significant long term downward trend in MVA death rates. The ASMR has dropped from 1.79 per 10,000 in 1986 to 0.94 per 10,000 in 2002.
