  • There were 6,893 deaths from cardiovascular disease in 2002, down from 6,962 in 2001. The ASMR for cardiovascular disease also dipped from 13.06 per 10,000 to 12.40 per 10,000.

  • The rate of deaths from cardiovascular disease continues a statistically significant downward trend, which has seen the ASMR drop from 20.92 per 10,000 in 1986 to 12.40 per 10,000.

  • There were 2,183 deaths from cerebrovascular disease in 2002, down from 2,284 in 2001. The ASMR for cerebrovascular disease fell to 3.85 deaths per 10,000 in 2002 from 4.17 per 10,000 in 2001.

  • There is a statistically significant long run downward trend in the ASMR for cerebrovascular disease.
