  • In British Columbia, Religious Representatives or Marriage Commissioners can perform marriage ceremonies. There were 2,987 Religious Representatives and 414 Marriage Commissioners who solemnized marriages in the province in 2001.

  • In 2001 approximately 43% of the marriages were performed by religious representatives (8,869) and approximately 57% were civil ceremonies (11,685).
