- There were 1,779 alcohol-related deaths in 2001.
- Out of every 100 alcohol-related deaths in 2001 approximately:
- 76 were males (1,354)
- 24 were females (425)
- About one half of all alcohol-related deaths were seniors (784 deaths aged 65-84 and 93 aged 85+) and a third (35.1%) were aged 45-64 (624 deaths).
- The proportions of alcohol-related deaths by age groups were similar for males and females.
