  • Of the 13 Local Health Areas (LHAs) with the statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 2001 (number of births in parentheses), the five highest ratios were:
    001 Fernie 1.51 (61)
    069 Qualicum 1.49 (121)
    053 Upper Skeena 1.47 (40)
    068 Nanaimo 1.46 (398)
    027 Cariboo-Chilcotin 1.41 (147)

  • All above LHAs except for Fernie also had statistically significant and high ratios for the 1996-2000 period.

  • There were nine LHAs with statistically significant and low perinatal complication ratios in 2001. The lowest six ratios (number of births in parentheses) were:
    081 Fort Nelson 0.45 (12)
    038 Richmond 0.76 (407)
    163 Vancouver North East 0.76 (284)
    037 Delta 0.82 (258)
    036 Surrey 0.86 (1,382)
    166 Vancouver South 0.86 (353)

  • There were 27 LHAs with statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 1996-2000. The five LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
