  • There were seven Local Health Areas (LHAs) with maternal complication ratios that were statistically significant and high in 2001. They were (number of births with maternal complications in parentheses):

    069 Qualicum 1.21 (150)
    048 Howe Sound 1.19 (246)
    070 Alberni 1.19 (175)
    072/084 Campbell River/V.I. West 1.17 (237)
    161 Vancouver City Centre 1.16 (431)
    164 Vancouver West Side 1.12 (596)

  • All above LHAs except Alberni and Howe Sound also had statistically significant high ratios for the 1996-2000 period.

  • There were seven LHAs with maternal complication ratios that were statistically significant and low in 2001. They were (number of births in parentheses):

    005 Creston 0.66 (43)
    014 Southern Okanagan 0.73 (52)

  • There were 11 LHAs with statistically significant and high maternal complication ratios in 1996-2000. The five LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:

  • There were 15 LHAs with statistically significant and low maternal complication ratios in 1996-2000. The six LHAs with the lowest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
