HIGHLIGHTS TO TABLE 40
  • There were 1,689 alcohol-related deaths in 2000.

  • Out of every 100 alcohol-related deaths in 2000 approximately:
    • 76 were males (1,283)
    • 24 were females (406)

  • About one half of all alcohol related deaths were seniors (717 deaths aged 65-84 and 112 aged 85+) and one third (35.5%) were aged 45-64 (600 deaths).

  • The proportion of alcohol-related deaths by age were similar for males and females, except that all the alcohol-related deaths under age 20 (9 deaths) in 2000 were males.
