  • Of the 11 Local Health Areas (LHAs) with the statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 2000 (number of births in parentheses), the five highest ratios were:
    018 Golden 1.61 (32)
    068 Nanaimo 1.48 (371)
    072/084 Campbell River/V.I. West 1.39 (190)
    027 Cariboo-Chilcotin 1.39 (153)
    069 Qualicum 1.37 (105)

  • All above LHAs also had statistically significant and high ratios for the 1995-1999 period.

  • There were 10 LHAs with statistically significant and low perinatal complication ratios in 2000. The lowest five ratios (number of births in parentheses) were:
    016 Keremeos 0.43 (6)
    081 Fort Nelson 0.55 (15)
    060 Peace River North 0.83 (149)
    163 Vancouver North East 0.84 (330)
    036 Surrey 0.85 (1,380)

  • All of the above LHAs, with the exception of Keremeos, also had statistically significant and low ratios for 1995-1999.

  • There were 29 LHAs with statistically significant and high perinatal complication ratios in 1995-1999. The five LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
    029 Lillooet 1.46 (162)
    027 Cariboo-Chilcotin 1.44 (895)
    018 Golden 1.35 (177)
    083 Central Coast 1.31 (60)
    068 Nanaimo 1.29 (1,923)

  • There were 12 LHAs with statistically significant and low perinatal complication ratios in 1995-1999. The six LHAs with the lowest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
