  • There were six Local Health Areas (LHAs) with maternal complication ratios that were statistically significant and high in 2000 (number of births with maternal complications in parentheses). These were:
    068 Nanaimo 1.32 (465)
    069 Qualicum 1.24 (133)
    072/084 Campbell River/V.I. West 1.23 (235)
    161 Vancouver City Centre 1.22 (437)
    042 Maple Ridge 1.11 (459)
    038 Richmond 1.10 (837)

  • All above LHAs except Maple Ridge also had statistically significant high ratios for the 1995-1999 period.

  • The six LHAs with maternal complication ratios that were statistically significant and low in 2000 (number of births in parentheses) were:
    002 Cranbrook 0.70 (72)
    060 Peace River North 0.81 (201)
    006/007 Kootenay Lake/Nelson 0.82 (100)
    057 Prince George 0.87 (460)
    023 Central Okanagan 0.89 (576)
    061 Greater Victoria 0.92 (737)

  • Greater Victoria had a statistically significant high ratio for 1995-1999; all of the other LHAs listed above except Kootenay Lake/Nelson had statistically significant low ratios for the 1995-1999 period.

  • There were 14 LHAs with statistically significant and high maternal complication ratios in 1995-1999. The six LHAs with the highest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
    068 Nanaimo 1.22 (2,615)
    029 Lillooet 1.20 (192)
    069 Qualicum 1.17 (774)
    161 Vancouver City Centre 1.16 (1,653)

  • There were 10 LHAs with statistically significant and low maternal complication ratios in 1995-1999. The six LHAs with the lowest ratios that were statistically significant (number of births in parentheses) were:
