- There were 9,399 cesarean deliveries of live born babies in 2000, and 26,115 spontaneous vertex deliveries. The 2000 cesarean section rate was 232.26 per 1,000 live births.
- The cesarean ratio is the number of C-section births in the area, compared to the number that would be expected based on the provincial rate and the number of live births in the area. The four Local Health Areas (LHAs) with cesarean ratios that were statistically significant and high in 2000 (with the number of cesarean deliveries in parentheses) were:
