  • There were 1,832 alcohol-related deaths in 1999.

  • Out of every 100 alcohol-related deaths in 1999:

    • 76 were males (1,394)
    • 24 were females (438)

  • Almost one half of all alcohol related deaths (46.5%) were in the 65 to 84 age group (851 deaths) and approximately one third (34.2%) were aged 45-64 (627 deaths). Only 13.7% of alcohol-related deaths were under 45 years of age, and 5.6% were 85 years or older (103 deaths).
