- There were 27,794 deaths in the province in 1999, and a total of 134,493 deaths in the 1994-1998 period from all causes of death.
- Thirteen Local Health Areas (LHAs) had Standardized Mortality Ratios (SMR) for all causes of death which were statistically significant and high in 1999. The five highest 1999 SMR values (with number of 1999 deaths in parentheses, and 1994-1998 SMR values) were:
