  • Of vital events in the province, only marriages show a seasonal distribution. In 1999, the most popular month to marry was August, with almost one fifth (17.2%) of the year's total marriages. The summer months, from May to September, were chosen by almost two thirds (65.8%) of 1999's brides and grooms. January was the least popular month for marriages in 1999.

  • On the last day of 1999, 174 couples celebrated the millennium by getting married. Typically, throughout the year, Fridays and Saturdays were the most popular days for marriages, and this New Year's Eve, a Friday, was no exception. In the last 10 years, the highest number of New Year's Eve marriage ceremonies was in 1994 (198 marriages) when the date fell on a Saturday.

  • Live births were generally evenly distributed over the twelve months in 1999. July had the largest number of live births, while February had the lowest number.

  • The highest number of deaths in 1999 occurred in January and the lowest number occurred in September.

  • In 1999, the largest number of stillbirths was in March.
