The Vital Statistics Agency continues to be actively involved in the preparation of various reports and publications that present and analyze British Columbia's vital event data. These studies, reports, and periodicals are intended as research tools to assist health planners, researchers, and health care administrators. Agency publications are available upon request from the BC Vital Statistics Agency, and can be viewed on the Agency's website at http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/stats/index.html.

Internet Sources of Vital Statistics Information

The Agency's Information and Resource Management branch web pages (http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/stats/index.html) include copies of recent annual reports, quarterly reports (Quarterly Digest tables and articles), health status indicators, popular baby names, and feature reports including the Analysis of Status Indians in British Columbia. Copies of most reports can be downloaded from the Portable Document Files pages.

Vital Statistics mortality data is also available on the Ministry of Health's Health Data Warehouse website (http://www.hdw.moh.hnet.bc.ca/). Access to this Ministry intranet site is limited to authorized users; for further information on access policies, please refer to: http://admin.moh.hnet.bc.ca/hdw/index.html.

The BC STATS website (http://www.bcstats.gov.bc.ca/data/pop/popstart.htm) presents statistics derived from vital statistics data, including fertility rates, estimates of life expectancy, and rates of natural population increase. BC STATS produces all population estimates used in Agency reports; these estimates and other population data can be downloaded from their website.
