- Out of every 100 alcohol-related deaths in 1998:
- 75 were males (1,428)
- 25 were females (464)
- Almost one half of all alcohol related deaths (45.9%) were in the 65 to 84 age group and approximately a third (32.5%) were aged 45-64. Only 17.1% of alcohol-related deaths were under 45 years of age.
