    • 45 were to mothers 30 to 39 years old (19,244)

  • Out of approximately 100 live births in 1998:

    • 1 was to a teenage father, less than 20 years old (538)
    • 29 were to fathers 20 to 29 years old (12,285)
    • 48 were to fathers 30 to 39 years old (20,475)
    • 10 were to fathers 40 years of age or older (4,074)
    • 13 did not include father's age (5,537)

  • There were 443 births (1.0% of live births) where both parents were teenagers (less than 20 years of age), and another 1,049 births where only one of the parents was a teenager (2.4%). There were 588 births (1.4%) where both parents were 40 years of age or older, and another 3,807 births where only one of the parents was 40 or older (8.9%).

  • Almost one quarter (24.5%) of 1998 live births were reported as out-of-wedlock (10,523). The actual number of out-of-wedlock births may be even higher since the percentages exclude births where it was not known if the parents were married to each other.
